Initial Session
The first contact with a client usually begins with a phone call. You will have the opportunity to share why you are seeking counseling at this time. It is also an opportunity for me to tell you about the practice, answer your questions and to schedule our first appointment.
It is natural to feel a little nervous about meeting with a therapist for the first time. Please know that every effort will be made to make your first session as comfortable, emotionally safe, and productive as possible. We will begin by discussing what brought you to therapy at this time. I will ask some questions related to your current situation and your family of origin, and I’ll take a brief medical/health history.
The first few sessions are an opportunity for you to share your situation and concerns and to assess your comfort level with me, the office setting, and my approach to therapy. It is also the opportunity for me to gain an understanding of your treatment goals, and provide you with a tentative treatment plan.
If we mutually agree to enter into a therapeutic relationship, we will typically schedule one 55-minute session per week, although other arrangements are possible. Duration of therapy is highly variable, depending on the presenting issues, our treatment goals, and other factors. During our work together, we will periodically review your goals and progress.
Fees will be discussed during our initial phone call. Payment may be made by cash, check, Master Card, VISA, Discover, or American Express. If requested, I will provide you with a summary statement of services that you may submit to your Health Savings Plan or to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
